The Process

No two shoots are alike. Each project requires a custom approach, with an emphasis on a proven process, to achieve the highest quality results.

Adjusting Workflow to Meet the Clients’ Needs

For commercial projects, Kara works from a “treatment” or “deck” to begin understanding the client’s vision and goal for the shoot. These mood boards along with verbal direction for each shot allow me to create a unique list of stores and designers that most likely have the clothing and accessories to fit the aesthetic of the client’s direction. She has put together modern, fresh styles from warm neutrals with pops of color to sophisticated corporate looks using high-end accessories.

For e-commerce shoots, monthly meetings with merchants are set to go over every piece that would be photographed before a typical 2-week photo shoot at the corporate office. Direction of how each item is merchandised in the store and the look the client wants to achieve in the photograph is planned. These notes are referred to during the photo shoots to ensure every piece of clothing is to match the brand image.

Today, most West Coast work consists of commercial and television video styling, a similar process to the commercial photo shoots. However, because videos for commercials and television can not be edited in post work, the clothing has to fit perfectly. As always, special attention is paid to A tailor is often brought in to fit the clothing to the actors.
